Mahlschatz Thüringer Schmuck

The term "Mahlschatz" was a familiar term to nubile Thuringian women in days gone by. Especially in rural areas, it was used to describe the bridal jewelry of the future spouse. Today's jewelry designers from Tabarz did not want to simply accept the fact that this jewelry, which was sometimes crafted with great skill, increasingly fell into oblivion over the course of time. Extensive research, especially in the local history rooms of our region, made it possible not only to find ancient originals, but also to reconstruct lost individual pieces.

In the show workshop "Original Thuringian Jewelry" antique and reconstructed pieces of jewelry can now be marveled at. In addition, there are many interesting facts about the customs and traditions of a time that goes back 150 years.

Another exhibition area is dedicated to the history of the jewelry craft of our home county. Here we encounter a once-developed branch of industry that became increasingly important after 1945, reached its economic and artistic peak around 1980, but has ceased to exist since 1992. Original documents and pieces of jewelry from those years make it possible to relive half a century of arts and crafts in Gotha County.

The show workshop "Original Thuringian Jewelry" sees itself as a custodian of that heritage and can feel confirmed in this claim for fifteen years now. May many more years follow!
